A woman who left her Christian faith to marry a Muslim man in Kasur has been hospitalised after her husband and his brothers threw boiling water on her face, resulting in serious burn injuries.
According to a media report, Sajida converted to Islam in 2013 to marry Aslam Dogar, a resident of Dhing Shah village in Kasur district. The report stated that Sajida was never accepted by Dogar’s family due to her former Christian faith.
“Sajida’s utensils were kept separate and she was abused on a regular basis,” the report claimed, adding that the family had also restricted her from stepping outside the house.
On Aug 31, Aslam and his two brothers reportedly threw boiling water on her face, injuring her severely. The report stated that a complaint was registered by Sajida’s family with the Khudian Police Station, which arrested Aslam and one of his brothers while one of them is yet to be taken into custody.
The report claimed that besides being burnt, Sajida had also been inflicted with a head wound some time ago which had developed maggots due to non-treatment.
According to the report, Sajida was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital from where she was referred to the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore due to severity of her injuries.
